As if euphoria about Dubai’s Burj Khalifa was not enough, first Saudi Arabia presented its 828-meter Royal Tower project and now Iraq also expressed a wish to build the highest skyscraper in Europe. Yes, Basra is that one city in Asia, which will lead a trio of the world’s highest buildings.
The city of Basra is located in the southern side of Iraq, it is the country’s one of the most peaceful regions with oil business, and rapidly developing trade trends. The local government here presented a new urban development plan in June 2015 and its aim is to increase the maximum volume of the city by 2025. The biggest priority is to squeeze the city and avoid its horizontal spread, therefore vertical development has become a priority. That is within these concepts that a British-Iraqi engineering and architecture company “AMBS Architects” put forward the idea of building the tallest skyscraper which will have 230 floors and at the same time, on top it will have a 188-meter aerial.
The building will be named Gulf Coast Bride because of its location and the height of its highest tower will be 1152 meters. Roughly speaking, imagine putting The Shard on top of Burj Khalifa. By the way, it is quite possible that you see the Bride from Burj Khalifa as well.
The south facade of the building is surrounded with a so-called glass ‘Veil’, which is designed to create a shadow to the lower places and public spaces of the complex. The other towers will be 724, 484 and 61 meters correspondingly. The authors describe it as the “first vertical city in the world”, they say, that it is not only the tallest building in the world, but it will also be a basis of the latest engineering and vertical transport. Four interconnected buildings of different heights include offices, hotels, shopping centers, residential zones. Even parks, gardens and the railway network of 1,550, 908 m2.
“Unlike conventional skyscrapers, the” bride “will be a place, which will be available not only for residents or workers, but also for all people, regardless each other” – said AMBS Architects
The project of the building started with net zero, which means that it produces as much energy as it consumes. Also it should be noted that the architect Jean Gang will set a record with this project as she will be the first woman in the world to implement the project of the tallest building.
There is still quite a lot of time until the skyscraper is finished. Not only the starting date, but also its exact location is not known either, however works are already underway. You can watch official video of the project here.
