“Architecture should speak of its time and place,  but yearn for timelessness”.

                                                                                                                                  Frank Gehry

In the place where I was born, architecture is just seen as usage of glass material on the facade.  I still live in my hometown and existence among so many glass buildings exhausts me, takes away all my energy because nothing is modern in my tiny city’s modern architecture. Then I close my eyes and reminisce Fujimoto’s symmetry and Sanaa’s white color, Tadao’s Concrete, which entered the 21st century with a fresh smell and Zaha’s airy lines, which the world had not seen before and therefore greedily breathes in.

Modern architecture is the result of modern engineering and without it, it would have been just a theory. These two concepts cannot exist independently of each other. Modernity merged them with each other even more. Great Corbusier wrote:

“The Engineer’s esthetic and Architecture – two things, that march together and follow one from other – the one at its full height, the other is and unhappy state of retrogression. Working by calculation, engineers employ forms, satisfying our eyes but their geometry and our understanding by their mathematics; their work is on the direct line of good art “.

Architecture is moving forward and based on its requirements, industry is creating new weapons. Computers are already doing complex calculation nodes individually. Modern technological achievements encourage architects to turn their own crazy ideas into reality, the implementation of the ideas which were previously unimaginable. A good example is Calatrava’s whole creative buildings, Zaha Hadid’s and and Frank Gehri’s works and that’s not all… You can see clearly how architects of modern age are trying to do their best to make honorable works. After the years new generation will be proud of Herzog de Meuron’s, Toyo Ito’s, Jean Nouvel’s, Thomas Heatherwick’s works and not only. I can say lot of names and you will say, that we’re already proud and happy that we have them.

All of this is happening in the place, where it is peaceful and the only concern is creation of valuable items. Engineering and calm political situation – these are the main factors for the development of architecture.

Engineering showed us its biggest possibilities in the 21st century, when the highest building in the world – 828meter Burj Khalifa was built in Dubai and became one of the decent marks of present times. However, at the same time, an hour and a half away from there, in Abu Dhabi, my favorite Jean Nouvel and even more lovable Norman Foster proposed their tiny, modest buildings. Also in the same location, Zaha hadid’s and Frank Gehry’s buildings are being constructed and perhaps this is the most obvious example of the fact that modern architecture truly exists in its highest dignity and it is exactly what our current age deserves. Modernity does not mean only huge skyscrapers, it still relies on a person’s emotional sides, and this is a priority. The main charm of this era is that goliath buildings and tiny constructions, old and newest ones can exist in harmony with each other. Look around, everything is contemporary in modern architecture and the answer to everything is love , because modernity is the mirror of modern’s man’s soul. The architecture reflects what we are. That’s why we should be the best, so that the works of this era inspire and excite the future generations, as a one  wise man said:

„As an architect you design for the present, with an awareness of the past, for a future which is essentially unknown.“
