Oleg timchnko is a contemporary Georgian artist who works with different techniques. He paits in oil, acrylic, creats photo collages, video installations, performances etc. His three series of paintings: “culmination”, “No Comment” and “Auto-Portrait” were on display at MOMA Tbilisi until November 15th.
Oleg Timchenko was born in 1957 in Tbilisi. In 1982 he graduated from Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Painting for his is natural and normal way of behavior just like speaking or walking. After graduating from the Academy of Arts, he was a member of different which united artists. Since 2011, he has been teaching at the Academy of Arts. He is the first artist whose work “Birch Trees” has been sold at Bonhams auction in London. His works are constantly represented in the US and European public exhibitions, as well as private collections. He mainly composes colorful conceptual series, as he believes these depictthe entire world full of love, joy and tragedy. His work has as much sincerity as he himself – simple, open and devoid of posing.
The project “Auto-Portrait”, which is presented in this article, combines several of his paintings. The automobiles depicted in the pictures illustrate well-known character of the people to whom those cars belonged or still belong. Politicians, singers, actors, businessmen, athletes’ personal vehicles, created with realistic, clear lines and sometimes even intense color, justify their owners not only nature, but also the slogans which they used, so the artist included them on the pictures to intensify the sense of reality.
